I had to watch this animation a few times until I got it but then I could relate to it very much. If you are an artist you don't belong to the normal group of the working population because what you create are "luxury goods" for art enthusiasts and not something essentiallly needed (Hm, is that true at all??). The success of an artist is and always have been totally uncertain and even the post mortem success is granted only to a very few lucky artists. I feel sorry for this little guy who tries to get his works out but gains no attention at all (except from the naughty little doggy, he he). That's the reason why most of the artists that I know do something else for a living and keep their artistry a leisure-time activity.
I know this is actually not much of a critique but I think the message or the story behind an artwork makes a considerable part of its quality. I am not an expert in emoticons but from what I can see it's skillfully done.
This is really great. I'm sure everyone's heard about artists who were only appreciated after their death, and this emote does a short and sweet job of telling that story. And I really felt pity for the poor artist as he was ignored and when he got that unwanted attention from the dog! But the end of the story made me smile.
Technically, the artwork is great. I absolutely love the expressions of the people walking by, ignoring him. The miniature paintings are cute, and I love the details you gave the artist--his beret, his growing beard. However, the walking animation at the beginning and jumping up and down animation of the crowd at the end aren't quite as good as they could be as the emotes doing these actions never squish. When we walk and jump, our knees bend. When emotes walk and jump, they squish. The dog is also quite small--at first I thought it was a cockroach --but its size is proportionate to an emote, so it works.

Congrats on the DD by the way!

Again, great job, and a wonderful emote.
